The Citizens Association of Georgetown’s September 24th meeting will feature a panel of candidates and commentators talking about the upcoming race for DC mayor. Candidates Muriel Bowser, David Catania and Carol Schwartz have been invited and the media representatives will be Topher Mathews of The Georgetown Metropolitan, Davis Kennedy, publisher of The Current newsletters, and Robert Devaney, Editor of The Georgetowner.
Independent candidate David Catania is an at-large council member who heads the Council's Committee on Education, and as past chair of the Committee on Health was instrumental in the revitalization of the only acute care hospital east of the Anacostia.
Carol Schwartz was for many years a moderate Republican at-large council member. Schwartz directed much attention to proper budget oversight and was a hawk on tax issues. She also spearheaded legislation requiring District employers to provide paid sick leave.
Unfortunately, Carol Shwartz is unable to attend due to Rosh Hashanah. Several of her campaign team will be in attandence. David Catania has confirmed he will attend. We have not yet heard from Muriel Bowser. Our very savvy media panelists will be discussing their views of the race and candidates.
Additionally, the candidates for the only contested seat on our Advisory Neighborhood Commission, Ellie Budic and Dr. Monica L. Roache`, will give brief presentations about their qualifications and concerns regarding single member district ANC2E07 - which is northeast Georgetown.
Democratic candidate Muriel Bowser has been the long time Ward 4 council member and is the author of new ethics legislation which led to the resignation or lost re-election bids of several council members.
